Hair Masques Your Locks Will Love You For

Danelle Sandoval

I never use to make the time to take care of my hair. I even colored it almost the entire rainbow over the course of three years. Finally, I decided to go back to my natural black hair color, and I could see how unbelievably damaged my hair was. I was FREAKING OUT, you guys. I thought the world was going to end and my hair was going to fall out and end with me being bald (which I cannot rock). The struggle of taking care of your hair when you’re hustling, sigh.

I was way too busy to make my own hair mask, otherwise I would have, so I ran to my local Ulta store and started browsing.

Let me tell you something about Ulta. It’s the answer to all your beauty prayers. They have some of the most organic and natural substances that I wouldn’t be afraid to use, at all. Since I’m so familiar with it, considering how I spent over two hours at that store when looking for hair treatments, I’ll focus on their products as well as some DIY’s for my girls that love to get creative.

Shine and Softness Curls

OGX Quenching + Coconut Curls Hair Curling Butter, $5.97

If you’ve got curly spirals like Mahogany Lox, then you need this product! The infinite number of bleach jobs I gave my hair, gave it such a dry and damaged texture that I was afraid to touch it, let alone brush it. I was literally so sad every time I looked at my hair, until I discovered OGX’s Coconut Curls. I purchased the entire collection, from shampoo to the hair mist, but let’s dive into its butter/mask product. So, I was born with extreme spirals aka curly hair. After coloring my hair about a thousand times, those curls went away. With the OGX Coconut Curls collection, my curls were slowly coming back. The “Curling Butter Rinse in or Leave Out” product is my best friend and one of my favorite products out of the entire collection. It’s filled with nothing but coconut oil, honey, and citrus that sinks into each strand of hair, immediately, and melts into your locks. Plus it smells amazing. I like taking baths with the Butter Rinse product in my hair, because I can just lie back and relax while the rinse does its work. Plus it’s sulfate-free! Winner.

Strength

Pureology Strength Cure Restorative Masque, $32.40

Madison Beer is always giving us #hairgoals with her flawless hair! For my baes that have mermaid-hair, I need you guys to continue to take care of it. With summer around the corner, the last thing you want is to officially kill your hair. Color plus sunlight plus ocean water is a recipe for ultimate disaster. You need your hair on point, and that’s why I recommend Pureology’s, “Strength Cure Restorative Masque.” It’s specifically for color-treated hair, so no more worrying about your color fading. It’s so creamy and filled with the right ingredients that it gives a perfect balance to strength and softness. It’ll put your split ends back together and give it a shiny, finishing touch. A little pricey so you’ll be breaking the bank a bit, but it’s worth every penny.

Back to the Roots

Make sure you keep those roots healthy like Julia Kelly! Everyone always thinks about the ends of your hair to take care of when it’s damaged. We just automatically assume that our roots will do the work for us, but most of the time, your roots need some love! That’s why I turned to Grow Gorgeous’s “Back Into The Roots 10 Minute Stimulating Scalp Masque.” It’s just as good as it sounds. 10 minutes on your roots and you’re closer to having fast-growing hair. I love it because it’s filled with vitamins, caffeine, and hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid is just a fancy term for a substance that feeds your hair and wouldn’t our hair just love us for it?! It’s a little pricey, but it does magic, so I highly recommend it.
