Nervous for your first date with the hottie from history class? Don’t sweat it. I know the struggle of perfecting the first impression outside of school is a whole lot of pressure, but it’ll be easy with a few simple tips. If you want to seem like a dope chick and impress your future bae, all you have to do is prepare and of course, be yourself.
Plan The Date Beforehand
After agreeing, or asking, your guy on a date, make sure you guys have a plan as to what you’re going to do. #NetflixAndChill isn’t going to cut it. You don’t want to go over a guy’s house and just sit there awkwardly, or let him get any funny ideas being home alone together. Instead, suggest a real date. There are tons of options, and if you don’t want to make it a big deal, you could simply say, “I’m dying to see *insert new movie here* Have you seen it!?” And yaaaasss: you have yourself a date to the movie theater. If your guy suggests a date you aren’t comfortable with, make sure to voice that. Bungee jumping and chill probably won’t work either. Make sure your plan is something you can look forward to.
Plan Your Outfit
Once you know what to expect via location, plan an outfit for this date. You want to look effortlessly gorgeous, so really, don’t try too hard. If you’re going to the movies, a cute top, jeans, and combat boots will do the trick. And DON’T go heavy with the makeup. Do whatever you would do if you were going out with your girlfriends. If you’re going to a fancy restaurant, you could Google the dress code online. See what other people will be wearing. A cute, flowy dress would be on point, but not a tight, clubbing mini. Whatever you choose, make sure you’ll be comfortable in it. The worst thing is wearing something uncomfortable and worrying about it all night.
Do Some Research
The night before your big date, it’s okay to do a little research. Okay, I don’t mean investigating to find information about his childhood or older sister’s fiancé, but just a couple of his interests. Check his Twitter and Instagram to see some of his hobbies or favorite TV shows. This way, if you see anything you guys have in common, you can bring it up on your date. For example, you see he RTed @WalkingDead_AMC, and you ask him, “Did you watch The Walking Dead last week!?” Suddenly, you’re his it girl. It doesn’t have to be all about him, either. After asking him about a show he likes, you could tell him about a show you like. No matter how girly and embarrassing it is, talking about Pretty Little Liars is better than awkward silences.
Feeling comfortable in your location and appearance is #MajorKey, but feeling comfortable talking and laughing with your guy is total perfection. Keep the vibe chill, and have fun. And don’t forget to brush your teeth before getting picked up! This date will be lit.
