Demi Lovato's past struggles are something she's never been shy about, simply because she uses her experiences to help others. Not only does she speak publicly about her battle with mental illness, but also provides help to others who need it.
Demi became the co-owner of the same rehab center where she got treatment back in 2011. During her time there, she was struggling with depression, bulimia, and substances abuse.
"I was a nightmare," Demi told CBS News.
It took Demi a long time to get to a healthy place again, but it did happen. She even has a mental health expert on tour with her to hold "wellness workshops" before every show. Fans are able to speak about mental-health issues with the coach that helped Demi get past her struggles.
"It sounds ridiculous but, like, I kind of made a pact with God," Demi said. "And I don’t even think you’re supposed to do that, but I was, like, I promised, ‘If you make me a singer one day, I’m going to use my voice for so much more than singing, and I’m going to help people with it.’"
