Miley Cyrus was one of the most famous teen actors from Disney Channel for her role on Hannah Montana, which ended in 2011. In a new interview with ELLE magazine, Miley revealed that her life wasn't all that it seemed to be.
Miley recalled how once she started working on Hannah Montana, her dream turned into a nightmare. She said, "I did not grow up spoiled in any way. I just wanted to be on TV. I mean, at one point—they'll probably kill me for saying it—I was probably the least paid person on my cast because I didn't know any better," the actress recalls. "I was just like, 'I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it!'"
Miley has been nothing but brutally honest, and she also admitted that her dream to be on TV and her parents inexperience with the industry made her miss out on some huge opportunities.
She confessed, "My name was Miley on my show, but I didn't own my name—we didn't think about that. Like, 'Yeah, you can use my name on your show, sure!' My mom started understanding how many people take advantage of a child, so she hired smart people to protect me in that way. I'm happy that when I was younger, people protected me and put me in a position where I can now control my music."
Hannah Montana may have made Miley the most famous teenager of her time, but it made her the most judged as she grew up and found herself.
"When we were that age, we so thought we knew who we were. When people say you're going to be so different at 22 or 23, when you're 16, you're like, 'I'm so not!' And then you change drastically. But when you're younger, you're more selfish, because there's so much self-exploration, you're in your own mind. I didn't think about the meat I was eating. I would wear leather. I would wear fur. I was just uneducated," Miley said about growing up in the spotlight.
